Weekly Update 15/16-September-2020

Sessions for this week remain at level 2: (limited to 100 people)
Tuesday and Thursday sessions this week are fully booked. NOTE: If you are registered for any session and find you cannot play, PLEASE let the office know as there are players who are wanting to play.
Sunday 20th Sept, bridge is cancelled for this weekend due the Christchurch Mini Congress tournament. The Sunday beginner lessons are on!

National Congress 2020 has been cancelled.

Womens Expo at Horncastle arena: Sat 3rd / Sun 4th October
We are looking for volunteers, male/female of all ages to play bridge at the upcoming Expo assuming we have gone to Level one. Usually 2 hour slots between 10am – 5pm each day. See noticeboard in foyer to add your name.

Christchurch Congress: The tournament for this weekend is now Full. If there are any players or pairs who can fill in if required over the weekend, please let the office know.
Christchurch Congress this weekend (19-20 September): We are looking for volunteers to help clean up after play this Saturday and Sunday. Time: 5-7pm approx.

Julian Cup: Sponsored by Westende Jewelers. This tournament is on Saturday 31st October. (There was some confusion about the day and date).
This a club member only tournament where by a Senior/Senior Reserve player partners an Intermediate/Junior Player. Club grades are used. More details can be found on the club’s noticeboard and on the website.

2021 Programme Book: 
  • Advertisers: We are looking for business’s to advertise in next years programme book. The adverts are in black & white and cost $200 + GST for a full page and $100 + GST for a half page. Please let the office know by the end of September if you are interested.
  • Club membership details: If you have had a change of address and/or phone number in the last year. Please let the office know so we can update your details.
Partner Finder: If you are looking for a permanent partner, please let your partner finder know for your particular session. (Their numbers are on page 4 of the programme book). I have a Senior player currently looking for a partner for a Thursday.

  • Christchurch All Grade Pairs: Sunday 11th October
  • NZ Wide Pairs: Friday 30th October Time: 7:20pm 1 session
  • Julian Cup: Saturday 31st October
  • Canterbury Interclub Teams: Sunday November 8th in Timaru: The club is looking for expressions of interest for players to represent the club in Open, Intermediate and Junior grades (NZ Rankings apply).
New Bridge Session at the Christchurch Bridge Club starting next Thursday 24th September, 1pm. Open to all.

Tournament Results: Ashburton: Mid-Canterbury Pairs 1st - Jessie Pelenato / Leon Meier 3rd - Graeme Tuffnell / Jan Alabaster Green section: 1st - Tina Sims / Bridget O’Brien 2nd - Margaret Fraser / Richard Williams Anniversary Pairs: This Saturday, 10am. This is a Club member only handicapped tournament. Please pay the entry fee $25 by this Thursday to allow the payments to be checked off. You can pay cash or use the EFTPOS at the Club (ask Thea) or pay on-line. Road Closures: Due to the Super Rugby round being held at the new stadium all this weekend, road closures will be in place. Roads will be closed on parts of Barbadoes Street, Madras Street between Hereford Street and St Asaph Street and streets close by around the stadium. Access to the Club will still be open but maybe allow more time to get there. Beginner Bridge Classes: The next class starts Monday 4th May at 7.30pm. Tutor: David Taylor. Please let your friends, family & work colleagues know. Daytime sessions: With a lot of new apartments in the area, there is an increase of children around. Can we ask when leaving the car park particularly for the daytime sessions that you keep the speed down when going down Nova Place. Canterbury Congress: 16/17 May: Competitions for all levels. See noticeboard or the flyer on the Home page of this website for further information. An experienced open pair from Auckland are looking for team-mates. Contact the office for further information.

Saturday Night Bridge this coming Saturday, April 18. 7pm start! Hot scones & jam for supper. Prizes!! Anniversary Pairs: Date: Saturday 25 April This is a handicapped tournament. The tournament is for Club members only. More information can be found on the flyer on the Home page of this website. Enter on the entry form in the Club foyer. Sunday Bridge Sessions: We are looking for more volunteers to be added to the roster to be a volunteer spare player when required. Please email the office if you can help. Kaikoura Bridge Tournament: A NZ Intermediate grade member is looking for an Intermediate partner to play in the Kaikoura Bridge tournament being held on May 23rd. Please contact the office if you would like to play.
