National Swiss Pairs (from NZ Bridge)

As everyone is aware we have a policy that we will not transfer events from face-to-face to online. However, we need to recognise situations might arise where it is not feasible or viable for an event to continue due to an emergency. We need, as a consequence, to be more flexible and find a way that these events can continue.

A situation has arisen in the Nelson area where three bridge clubs have had to close their doors due to COVID. The closure of the Nelson Club has brought into question the ability of the club to run the National Swiss Pairs event face-to-face on the weekend of 18th June.

The application by the Top of the South Region and the Nelson Club has been approved to switch the National Swiss Pairs online. We hope this early notice will allow players to make the necessary arrangements to play in the event if they wish to do so.

The Board is currently finalising a new Contingency Policy which will allow clubs to apply to transfer events online in the event of an emergency (e.g. fire, flood, earthquake, COVID or other health emergency). This will be sent to clubs in the coming week.
