ChCh Bridge Club Newsletter 12-October-2022
Dear Members,
With the arrival of Spring and the removal of the bulk of COVID restrictions the club can now move forward into more positive times. Our membership is stable and weekly attendance numbers, despite a blip last week during the National Congress in Tauranga, continue to steadily increase. Beginner's classes have now been completed for the year and a good number of attendees have now become members. We owe a huge vote of thanks to Lizzie Thompson and the team of dedicated teachers and helpers who have encouraged and nurtured these new players throughout the year.
Thanks are also due to those who attended the Working Bee on Sunday 2 October and to those who provided morning tea. Good progress was made with the maintenance of the building, gardens and grounds and we are grateful to Rex Denley who has agreed to co-ordinate the garden group. Thanks to the hard work of Steve Renall and his team we now have a dedicated parking space for the use of directors to the right of the portico.
We are fortunate to now have a team of ten directors under the leadership and guidance of David Stephen. In order to retain this healthy number it is important that we appreciate and support the work that they do and accept their instructions and rulings in a respectful manner. Guidance on the procedure to follow if players wish to appeal is provided in the Code of Conduct section of the Match Programme Book.
In keeping with looking after our staff, we will hold our first full staff meeting on 27 October. This move is in response to our updated Health and Safety Policy which has been expanded to acknowledge the importance of mental health and well-being in the workplace. The operation of our club depends heavily on the efforts and input of all staff and we need to ensure that we support and acknowledge them at all times.
The grading committee has met recently and we will soon be congratulating those who have been promoted. The new Match Programme Book is currently being printed and should be delivered by late November.
Thank you everyone for your continued support of our club. We look forward to welcoming even more members back as the summer approaches.
Take care,
Marilyn Copland,
Club President.
