Weekly Update 2-5-February-2021
Beginner Bridge Lessons
start this Wednesday 3rd February at 7.30pm. Please let you friends know.
Back to Bridge Refresher
course starts Wednesday 10th February for 4 weeks at 7.30pm.
2021 Subscriptions
are now overdue, the subs will remain $80 if paid by the 7th February otherwise they will be $90.
South Island Teams:
are being held here at the Club on the 13/14 February. So far there are 47 teams, the biggest entry ever in NZ outside of Congress.
We are looking for volunteers
to help out with the kitchen/catering, transport, gophers, caddies
for both days, so please if you can please help sign up now!
There is a sign up list in the foyer or email the office if you can help on either day, morning or afternoon.
We also require a spare pair/team
in case of sickness, if you are available to play at short notice, let the office know.
Want to play: we have an open pair looking for team-mates.
Annual General Meeting:
Thursday 25th March, 2021 at 6.30pm in the clubrooms.
Committee Nominations
are now being asked for 2021. Nomination forms can be found at the Club and close at midday on March 3rd.

The South Island Teams
are on Sat 13 / Sun 14 February. So far we have 49 teams which is the biggest entry ever at a club outside of the national congress in New Zealand.
We would love some more volunteers
for kitchen, gophers, easy miscellaneous jobs. Contact Sue in the office or add your name to the list in the foyer.
Spare players & team: The entries close off on Monday 8th Feb at 5pm and we need to have an even number of teams. We need players or pairs to act as substitute players in case of sickness, and we may need a spare team, if this is the case then that team will have free entry to the competition, we are also still looking for a pair for one team, the other pair is coming down from Wellington.
Sunday Bridge 14th February
is cancelled due to the number of teams entered in the South Island Teams.
Note: This week Independent Line Services are removing power lines and pole from the club premises. Some of the parking spots will be unavailable during this week. Please be aware of the hazards which are cordoned off with orange cones. Hopefully the work will be finished on Thursday. The power will be off at the club this Thursday morning.

Tournament Results: Ashburton: Mid-Canterbury Pairs 1st - Jessie Pelenato / Leon Meier 3rd - Graeme Tuffnell / Jan Alabaster Green section: 1st - Tina Sims / Bridget O’Brien 2nd - Margaret Fraser / Richard Williams Anniversary Pairs: This Saturday, 10am. This is a Club member only handicapped tournament. Please pay the entry fee $25 by this Thursday to allow the payments to be checked off. You can pay cash or use the EFTPOS at the Club (ask Thea) or pay on-line. Road Closures: Due to the Super Rugby round being held at the new stadium all this weekend, road closures will be in place. Roads will be closed on parts of Barbadoes Street, Madras Street between Hereford Street and St Asaph Street and streets close by around the stadium. Access to the Club will still be open but maybe allow more time to get there. Beginner Bridge Classes: The next class starts Monday 4th May at 7.30pm. Tutor: David Taylor. Please let your friends, family & work colleagues know. Daytime sessions: With a lot of new apartments in the area, there is an increase of children around. Can we ask when leaving the car park particularly for the daytime sessions that you keep the speed down when going down Nova Place. Canterbury Congress: 16/17 May: Competitions for all levels. See noticeboard or the flyer on the Home page of this website for further information. An experienced open pair from Auckland are looking for team-mates. Contact the office for further information.

Saturday Night Bridge this coming Saturday, April 18. 7pm start! Hot scones & jam for supper. Prizes!! Anniversary Pairs: Date: Saturday 25 April This is a handicapped tournament. Sunday Bridge Sessions: We are looking for more volunteers to be added to the roster to be a volunteer spare player when required. Please email the office if you can help. Kaikoura Bridge Tournament: A NZ Intermediate grade member is looking for an Intermediate partner to play in the Kaikoura Bridge tournament being held on May 23rd. Please contact the office if you would like to play.
